Abstract

Differentiating the traditional urbanization of quantitative expansion, China's urbanization has turned to a new road focus on people's orientation. As a new form of new urbanization construction, characteristic towns' sustainable development is of great importance to the current high-quality development of China's economy. Different from previous studies on the sustainable development of characteristic towns based on qualitative methods, this pa- per uses the industry-city integration degree to measure the sustainable development of characteristic towns, and ex- amines the sustainable development of Chinese characteristic towns from the perspective of a new urbanization human orientation. Taking the two batches of national characteristic towns announced by the state successively in 2016-2017 as the research objects, the industry-city integration level of the two batches and characteristic towns of the three major urban agglomerations in the country during the three years of 2014-2016 was measured. The study found that: the overall integration level of the characteristic towns in the cities and towns presents the spatial pattern of “high in the east and low in the west, low in the south and high in the north”, and the regional distribution difference exists; There is a steady upward trend; In terms of the type of industry-city integration, the level of development of industry-city integration in small towns across the country is not high, although the level of industry- city integration in the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration has entered a moderate coordination period. The development of towns and cities is still at a low level of coordinated development, and the sustainable development of characteristic towns still has a long way to go.
