Abstract
Based on the product space theory, this paper analyses Yangtze River Delta regional product space by u- sing the manufacturing production data from 2009 to 2018 and empirically tests the relationship between product density and comparative advantage. Then we research on regional upgrade paths. The results show that:there is path dependence in the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry. The region tends to product new products that are highly related to the current advantageous products.Product density plays a dual role in promoting the upgrading of emerging industries and hindering the decline of competitive industries. There are barriers to the withdrawal of labor-intensive industries in a region, hindering the development of capital-intensive and technology-intensive industries, and hindering the innovation and upgrading of regional industries. Thus,it is necessary to combine the development status of regional manufacturing industry then giving play to the positive role of path dependence to promote industrial diversification development and optimizing industrial withdrawal mechanism to achieve the upgrading of regional manufacturing industry.
