Abstract
Based on 2015—2019 provincial panel data, this paper uses the entropy method to measure the digital economy development level of 30 provinces, and then analyzes the impact of digital economy development on enterprises’ green innovation under the tool of heterogeneous environmental regulation. The results show that the development of digital economy has a significant positive impact on enterprises’ green technology innovation. In addition, the panel threshold model with environmental regulation as the threshold variable is further set. The research finds that when the command-and-control and cost-based environmental regulation are taken as the threshold, the positive impact of the development of digital economy on enterprises’ green technology innovation will increase with the strengthening of the threshold. When the investment environmental regulation is taken as the threshold and crossed, the promoting effect of the development of digital economy decreases. This study shows that the impact of digital economy development on green innovation is closely related to the types of environmental regulations, which means that supporting policies for digital economy development need to be combined with strict and properly designed environmental regulations to effectively promote green innovation of enterprises.
