Abstract

The level of development of advanced manufacturing enterprises is an important manifestation of the competitiveness of the national manufacturing industry. At present, although China's advanced manufacturing enterprises have made considerable achievements in certain niche areas, the market for high-end chips, biomedical products, industrial robots and other products is still monopolized by foreign oligopolies and multinational capital. At the same time, in order to maintain the status of “chain master” in the global value chain, developed countries have hindered the participation of manufacturing enterprises from developing countries in the division of labor in the global high-end value chain through a series of measures, such as strategic containment, technological blockade, and tax barriers, which have led to the long-term “locking” or “capturing” of the enterprises. As a result, they have long been “locked” or “captured” in the embedded links with lower added value. How Chinese advanced manufacturing enterprises seek to break through the double dilemma of “high-end blockade” and “low-end squeeze”, and quickly realize GVC upgrading for deeper development has become an urgent problem to be solved. Through theoretical and empirical research, many scholars have proved that servitization has a positive role in the transformation and upgrading of China's manufacturing enterprises, which provides a useful reference for the transformation and upgrading of China's advanced manufacturing enterprises, and helps enterprises realize value co-creating and reconstruct their competitive advantages. Servitization has become the main value-added point of the global manufacturing value chain, which is not only a hot topic in the international market, but also a strategic and necessary field for manufacturing enterprises to realize leapfrog development towards the high-end. This paper takes dynamic capability theory as the research perspective to reveal the mechanism of the influence ofservitization, dynamic capability, and technological diversification on the GVC upgrading of advanced manufacturing enterprises and puts forward research hypotheses. On this basis, the relationship between servitization, dynamic capabilities, technological diversification and GVC upgrading of advanced manufacturing enterprises is empirically examined using a two-way fixed effects model with 101 listed enterprises in Chinas advanced manufacturing industry during the period of 2015—2021 as the research sample. The following conclusions are drawn: (1)servitization can positively promote GVC upgrading of advanced manufacturing firms; (2) dynamic capabilities play a partial mediating role between servitization and GVC upgrading of advanced manufacturing firms; and (3)technological diversification positively moderates the relationship between servitization and dynamic capabilities of advanced manufacturing firms. This paper provides a theoretical basis for the development of Chinese advanced manufacturing enterprises and the formulation of government policies related to servitization. It enriches the completeness and systematicity of the research on the impact mechanism of servitization on the upgrading of global value chains of advanced manufacturing enterprises. It has a certain guiding significance in guiding the servitization of advanced manufacturing enterprises to promote the upgrading of global value chains by enhancing their dynamic capabilities. Chinese advanced manufacturing enterprises still need to improve their technological innovation ability, learning and absorption ability, and resource integration ability so as to improve their dynamic capabilities, and this process should focus on increasing investment in scientific research and training of innovative talents as well as investment in high-tech resources. At the same time, China should vigorously develop information technology and actively promote the in-depth integration of advanced manufacturing enterprises and productive service enterprises, so as to provide a solid foundation and guarantee for the service-oriented transformation of advanced manufacturing enterprises.
