Abstract

The integrated development of industries has emerged as a cornerstone strategic approach in the current economic landscape, playing a pivotal role in optimizing industrial layouts and fostering sustainable economic growth. China places a high degree of emphasis on fostering interconnected and integrated development between the logistics industry and the manufacturing sector, recognizing its significant value and potential. The cornerstone theoretical foundation of the article lies in the principles of industrial linkage and industrial synergy, which provide a robust underpinning for the subsequent analysis. These principles serve as a solid bedrock for exploring and understanding the intricate interactions and cooperative dynamics between different industries. The article focuses intently on ten prefecture-level cities within the Huaihai Economic Zone, conducting an in-depth examination of the extensive panel data spanning from 2010 to 2022 in these regions. The objective is to uncover the underlying patterns and inherent laws governing the synergistic development between the logistics industry and the manufacturing sector, offering insights into their intricate interplay and mutual reinforcement over time. During the data analysis process, the article ingeniously employs two advanced methodologies: the entropy method and the coupling synergy model. These approaches are utilized in a scientific and objective manner to conduct a quantitative assessment of the synergistic development between the logistics industry and the manufacturing sector. By leveraging these techniques, the article aims to provide a precise and measurable understanding of the interplay and mutual reinforcement between the two industries. Utilizing the aforementioned methodologies, the article not only accurately measures the level of synergistic development between the logistics industry and the manufacturing sector but also conducts an in-depth analysis of its evolutionary characteristics. This analysis reveals the dynamic trends and shifts in the synergistic development of these two industries, offering a comprehensive understanding of their evolving interplay and mutual reinforcement over time. Furthermore, the article introduces the grey relational analysis and the fixed effects model, delving even deeper into the pivotal factors influencing the synergistic development between the logistics industry and the manufacturing sector. This comprehensive exploration provides valuable insights and practical guidance for optimizing industrial layouts and fostering economic growth, serving as a beneficial reference for policymakers and stakeholders in the region. The research findings indicate that the coupling synergy degree within the Huaihai Economic Zone has undergone a transformation, rising from a state of slight disharmony in 2010 to a level of barely acceptable coordination in 2022. Overall, the trend exhibits an upward momentum, indicating that the synergistic relationship between different industries within the region have gradually improved over the studied period. Upon further investigation into the driving factors influencing the coupled synergistic development, it is revealed that indicators such as cargo turnover rate, growth rate of manufacturing employment, sales revenue of industrial enterprises, and growth rate of total industrial output value are highly correlated with the coupling synergy degree. Moreover, technological advancements, public budgets, and industrial structure factors have a significant positive impact on enhancing the coupling synergy between the logistics industry and the manufacturing sector. This conclusion not only deepens the theoretical understanding of the synergistic development between the logistics industry and the manufacturing sector but also provides a scientific basis for policymaking. Consequently, it can effectively facilitate the deep integration between the logistics industry and the manufacturing sector, thereby promoting sustained high-quality economic development.
