Abstract

Innovation, recognized as a crucial means for corporate transformation and upgrading, is a shared con-sensus between theoretical and practical domains. However, current research is deficient in analyzing the inherent mechanism behind the enterprise’s transformation and upgrading driven by dual innovation. This paper aims to address the deficiencies in current research, and tackle issues like low-end lock-in and path dependency faced by Chinese enterprises in the global value chain. Based on the perspective of innovation ( flow) evolution, this paper uses a longitudinal case study method, explores the basic principles and patterns of dual innovation driving enterprise transformation and upgrading, reveals the driving conditions and influencing factors. Furthermore, it proposes a mechanism model of dual innovation driving enterprise transformation and upgrading. It finds that:Firstly, dual innovation is the core driving force determining the transformation and upgrading of enterprises;Secondly, enterprises gradually advance from low-tech, low-added-value activities to high-tech, high-added-value activities through the synergistic evolution of dual innovation accumulation, radical innovation leap, and the formation of technology( market) niches, thus facilitating the enterprises transformation and upgrading; Thirdly, during the process of corporate transformation and upgrading, entrepreneurship, differentiated upgrading strategies, and organizational structural changes play a significant supportive role. The research conclusion enriches the relevant studies on enterprise transformation and upgrading, and provides reference for enterprises to reveal the inherent logic of dual innovation driving enterprise transformation and upgrading.
